Overview:
The newly renovated Mayan reponed February 1990 and it located in downtown LA. Built in 1927 by leading LA architects Stills clements and designed by Mexican artist Francisco Cornejo as a spectacular Mayan rivival theater, it opened with George Gershwins’ musical “oh kay”. It is one of only 8 buildings built in pre Colombian style with hand-carved, richly painted walls, a spectacular Sun Caldendar and chandelier.
The Mayan boasts a proud heritage as well facilities unlike any available on the west coast (not to mention a killer brass section). It is a historical landmark that has been upgraded to include a refinished hardwood stage and dance floor, extensive intelligent lighting, and staye of the art sound equipment.
